hello all- I just joined the forum and yes there is a terrible amount of spamming and junk in the recent forum postings. Is there any way to flag the spammers and have them booted?
My name is Brad Tierney...I am from and currently live in Iowa. I've been a fan of Ritchie for as long as I can remember. My dad, Dennis is 66 and very nearly went to the concert at the Surf in 59...he didnt have a car and the parents of the friend he was going to ride with, didnt want them to go because of the weather. Too bad things couldnt have been different that night...in ALOT of ways.

I met all of the Valens family personally, this past February at the 50 Winters Later weeklong tribute in Clear Lake @ the Surf Ballroom. What a great week it was- to see and hear the stories of friends and FAMILY of Buddy, Ritchie and J.P! I'm a huge fan of everything 50's but the story of these guys is a focal point for me...something Ive read up on extensively and asked questions about at every turn. But yes, I got to talk and hang out with the Valens family some while they were in town...at the ballroom, etc. Connie, Irma, Bob and Mario were all very gracious w/their time during all the commotion and bustle. I had made up some tshirts for the tribute...i made them off of a painting i did back in High School...of Buddy, Ritchie and the Bopper. My painting was on display at the Surf from 1991-2001 and then I took it out to have some photos taken of it...and got it back on display in late 2008, for the big 50th anniversary tribute. Its called "Three Stars" so look for it if you ever go to the Surf. Its in the Surf Lounge, off the ballroom. So anyway, I made some shirts with my painting on the front and wanted to make sure the Valens family took some home with them. So Irma gave me her VIP card so i could go out to my car, get the shirts and then get back into the VIP section to get them to her. She was so grateful for the shirts and invited my dad, brothers and i to the VIP party after the show! Soo much fun to talk one on one with Ritchie's sisters!! Wherever you are, Connie, Irma, Bob and Mario...i hope you are wearing your shirts w/pride in your little brother...and thanks for all your generousity in Clear Lake!!

I used to moderate the forums awhile back and remove the spam, however I had a lot of other work at the time and requested to stop moderating. I don't mind doing it again, however I think a simple update to the forum would stop all the spam, it really can't be that difficult.

But welcome to the forum, hope you pop in once in awhile, used to have some decent activity here about 2 - 3 years ago, but don't know where most of the users went. Rockabilly Chick was pretty cool, so was ScottD, makst, and Caitlin.

Thanks Connie,

Hi to everyone here and I want to tell all of you visitors out there a little story.
Last year, I was able to purchase from this site a replica Ritchie Valens guitar and I want to say that I love playing it and I cherish both the sound and the look but also the feeling that THIS is INDEED the guitar TYPE that ritchie played and I feel both pretty special and cool because of it.
Now...this isnt all of my story as last year I also purchased a ritchie valens shirt which was cool as well. well THIS year....I noticed that there is a ritchie valens clock and a NEW shirt so I decided to purchase these two items as well.
now...last year...I was tickled pink when I recieved a signed thank you card from Connie Lemos (ritchie sister) saying thank you for ordering the guitar and to have a great birthday (she made sure I recieved it in time for my 50th birthday) so anyway...low and behold....two days ago I recieved a PHONE CALL and it was from...guess who? Richies sister CONNIE telling me that she recieved my shirt but was unhappy with the look of it and she was asking if I could wait to get a better one and was apologizing for the delay.
first off ...

1. I could NEVER be angry because how many siblings of a rock legend are this gracious and this kind to CALL PERSONALLY on the phone to one of there orderers of there product?
sure....its a BUSINESS and they run it but its also done with LOVE and respect now only for there late brother but also out of respect for the fans of ritchie and also for the fans that embrace them in turn.

Connie and I talked a pretty long time long distance and I was both star struck and awed by both the humble and plain comraderie of CONNIE.
from what I have heard the rest of the family is just as nice and great as what I have been led to believe.
They could have been mean and rude and ignored us fans but they chose not to because they are not like that!
They are as decent and loving people as you would ever want to meet!
I myself found myself tongue tied as to me...they are TRUE rock and roll royalty.
There brother was a pioneer and they are continuing his legacy by keeping the legend alive
I think that is very admirable and special and cool.
They didnt have to call me as I would have waited years to get that shirt and clock but they gave me a special thrill and suprise of my life with a simple phone call. I dont even care If I dont get the clock and shirt even though its paid for.
What connie did was SPECIAL and I will ALWAYS remember and treasure that phone call.
I know it was a business call but ...man thats RITCHIES SISTER! she did not HAVE to do that....
I doubt if LISA MARIE PRESLEY would do that?
I dont think YOKO ONO or SEAN LENNON would do that?
Matter of fact I dont know of any sibling or relative of ANY other late star that would do that?

In MY eyes....the VALENS family is the GREATEST ROCK FAMILY on this FACE of this EARTH!

Long live the memory of Ritchie!
and LONG LIVE HIS FAMILY!

you do BOTH his MEMORY and Also HIS FANS....VERY PROUD!
GOD BLESS!

sincerely
