I do hope the documentary isn't a jigsaw of all the other various documentaries that have done the circuits from time to time. Then again the Film and the book will be very interesting.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but I did want to post a reply regarding the free plug given to me by good pal, Gary Clevenger...

My book, "Dancing As If There's No Tomorrow: The Final Tour and Enduring Legacy of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson" is indeed a new history on the ill-fated 1959 Winter Dance Party tour. It's also something of a social history on teenage America of the 1950's. It was this generation of teenager's that first so lovingly embraced the music of Holly, Valens, and the Bopper. When that small Beechcraft Bonanza came crashing down in the early morning hours of February 03, 1959, so too did a large chunk of the innocence of that youthful generation.

I've researched this book for going on two years now, and have interviewed over two hundred people in someway associated with this GAC tour. From the fans who attended the shows, to the disc jockeys who hosted them, I'm happy to say that there is much new information imbedded in my work that will be a revelation even to the most dillegent of Dance Party researchers. I have tracked down MANY new photographs from this tour, unpublished record charts from the small towns and cities the tour wound it's way through, and never before told stories of Buddy, Ritchie, and J.P. told to me through the words of the former teenagers who flocked to see them back in the winter of '59. Along the way, I'm happy to say, I've discovered new facets of this story that will stand as a corrective to certain inaccuracies which have cropped up in prior books, articles, and documentaries.

Thanks for listening to this shameless "commercial". The book is due out later this year.

By the way, I don't know if Gary is just being modest, but he has a history on Buddy Holly that he has been working on for some time, and I think we're all in for a nice treat when that comes out.
