Its hard to believe that had he lived, Ritchie would only be 67 and possibly still rocking!
I think its a testimonial that Ritchies music continues to captivate and bring happiness to those that hear his music.
I only wish we could have more of it!
On a side note, so much is made of his music and the way he died that I sometimes wonder what Ritchie the young man was like?
I have a feeling from what I have read that he was very polite and a very nice young man.
But ritchie must have had other dreams and fears and one wonders if he ever thought about the future and what he might do later on in his life?
music producer? TV star? and so on.
I have read that Buddy Holly wanted to produce Ritchie and I wonder how that would have affected him? Holly obviously knew talent!
I wish I could have known him as he had so much life ahead of him and because he was so young when he died he will forever more remain innocent in our hearts and minds.
and sadly....in my state of minnesota the music from the 50s has almost dissapeared as oldies station play 60s thru the 80s with one or two old 50s songs played maybe during the day and if one IS played...its usually an ELVIS record.
I really miss Chuck Berry, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly ,Jerry Lee Lewis and others....
The 1950's were rocks golden years and its pretty sad that they are being forgotten!
I know that the 50th anniversary just came and went on the day Buddy,Ritchie and J.P left us and I can't help but shudder to think that now that its over (the anniversary) that the memory of these great stars might fade even more due to modern music invasion.
I hope I am wrong because new fans are out there. They just need to listen to these stars music to fall in love.
but if the radios don't play them then people don't hear them.
So its up to us fans to spread the music of JP, BUDDY and RITCHIE!
The 1950s was more then just ELVIS (He was pretty good too)
Fifty years IS a looooooooong time but MUSIC......Man.....if its good...it lasts forever.
Someday....200 years from now there may be only 1 person on earth that even knows about Ritchie Valens / Elvis / Buddy but as long as that one person humms out that 1950s song....true rock and roll will then never die.
and lastly...the thought of old rock and roll being treated by future kids as music like WE treated Bach and Beethoven is a little sad but hey....even today symphonies play bach and beethoven so even the REAL EARLY stars are still getting there accolades!
I hope and pray that the same will be true for our stars from the 1950S
Long live there memorys.
Long live the music of Ritchie Valens
and Long LIVE rock and roll!
